I have been at this writing thing for more than 35 years and I still get blocked from time to time. Getting blocked is normal and nothing to worry about.
Don’t fret, I can get you out of that state. In this blog we’ll learn more than just how to get unblocked, as there’s always something deeper going on. It’s way more than just not being able to write – as you will see.
Let’s begin with getting unblocked before moving onto the bigger lesson.
Step One. The first thing to understand about getting blocked is this: blocks are the result of trying to force your flow. When you force the flow, you receive the opposite of your desired result; you end up constipated. In this case, inspirationally constipated.
The goal is to allow your creativity to flow through you like that of a river; no one tries to force a river to flow. They flow because that’s what rivers do; naturally and all on their own. The same is true with the inspiration that seeks to flow through you every minute of every day. Left alone, it flows naturally, but when something gets in the way – like a conscious intent to force it – than you run into problems.
So realizing that you don’t have to be responsible for creating the flow is Step One in getting unblocked. In fact, all you have to do is let the flow be the flow and let it direct you in the best direction for you to go and you will be okay, which isn’t so easy for most of us, which brings us to Step Two in getting unblocked….
Step Two. You must allow yourself to Relax. Relaxing is the most misunderstood concept in our culture. So many Americans try to relax, which, of course, is the opposite of pulling the plug, letting go, and relaxing.
So how is it that you relax? The easiest way is to listen to the first track on my Transitioning Back to the Author You Were Meant To Be audio, which is continually played during all of my retreats. The track is sure to get you to relax. You can acquire a copy of that audio for free by clicking here.
Step Three. Listen to track two of the CD (the subliminal track of the CD). This will keep you in an unblocked state, which leads us to the fourth and final step in getting unblocked….
Step Four. What so many authors don’t realize is there is more to take away from a “blocked state” than just frustration. Resistance (which is at the heart of any blocked state) is a directional arrow, a doorway to enlightenment. Resistance identifies for us areas that need to be first acknowledged and then understood before they can finally be let go. Then and only then can we live that ultimate experience: growth.
When you find yourself firmly entrenched in your unblocked state and connected with your Divine Author Within, ask the difficult questions. Keep yourself quiet to hear the answers and remove the resistance that formed your formerly blocked state in the first place.
And make sure to ask the most challenging, the most soul-shaking of questions.
“Do I really have a book in me?”
“I don’t want to write a book. Why am I being led to write one?”
“What happens after I begin to write?”
Ask. Receive. Be healed. Grow!
